Our Classes

We understand that you may be nervous before your first class, so we do our best to ensure that you’re taken care of. For the adults you will have a short (usually individual) introductory session before joining in with your first training session, and our instructors are always on hand to answer your questions and give you any extra guidance you may need. Our classes are split by ability so most of your classmates will also be fairly new to the school.

Our children’s classes are split by both age (Little Dragons 4 to 6 years, Junior Warriors 7 to 12 years) and ability (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced) to ensure the most appropriate material is being delivered at all times.

For both the adults and children’s classes we believe in building motivated, positively minded students, and our extensive instructor knowledge has allowed us to build a syllabus and grading structure that can effectively take you from beginner to black belt and beyond

Little Dragons (4 – 7 Years Old)

As everybody knows, children learn differently from adults. Parents, in particular, know full well how teaching children requires implementing simpler words and concepts, metaphors, and techniques aimed at engaging their focus and interest.

With this in mind, Kung-fu Schools, Sutton run age-specific classes, delivered in an interesting, challenging, and most of all, fun manner, with lessons tailored specifically for your child’s age and learning stage.

Our Little Dragons classes, geared towards children aged between 4 and 7 years, are taught to a comprehensive curriculum, from beginners through to intermediates and advanced. At Kung Fu Schools, we believe that a black belt is a white belt that never gave up, and so it is our goal to guide every one of our students to their Little Dragon black belt, and possibly beyond!

As your child grows older, they will progress on to our Junior classes, which are again age specific, for ages 7 to 12. The Juniors will prepare your child to transition towards the adult classes.

Our friendly and upbeat lessons are taught by a team of instructors, all of whom are experienced in teaching children, and who are DBS checked for your peace of mind. To ensure your child gets the most out of each lesson, we limit class sizes to maintain a small student to instructor ratio.

We focus on keeping lessons upbeat and educational, and our emphasis on positive reinforcement ensures our students are recognized for their efforts, instilling in them a positive sense of wellbeing. Our two most important rules for the kids are: to always try their best, and to always have fun!

If you would like your child to:

  • Develop better self-discipline
  • Have more confidence
  • Focus better at school
  • Learn to be more responsible for their actions
  • Adopt a more positive overall attitude
  • Then we can help!

As a parent, we understand that while you want your child to become a well-rounded individual, you also want them to enjoy what they do. This is why we offer a 30-day, no obligation trial, for you to see what we can offer you and your child! The first lesson is by appointment only, so contact us now to book yours!

Juniors (7 – 12 Years Old)

Being a pre-teen is an exciting time; as your child moves towards young adulthood, they will meet all sorts of new and different challenges. While they mature physically, mentally and emotionally, they learn quicker than younger children, but they will continue to learn differently from adults.

With this in mind, Kung-fu Schools, Sutton run age-specific classes with lessons that are fun, engaging, challenging, and most importantly, appropriate to your child’s age and learning stage.

Younger children between the ages of 4 and 7 will benefit from our Little Dragons classes, while older children aged 13 and over will relish the challenges of our Adult classes.

LD Yellow BeltOur Junior classes are geared towards children between 7 and 12 years of age, with a comprehensive curriculum that covers materials for beginners, all the way through to intermediates and advanced. As children progress through our grading structure, their concentration and self-control will improve. This allows for longer lessons for the intermediate and advanced students, which also includes partner work and weapons training, all taught in a controlled atmosphere under the watchful eyes of our instructors.

At the Kung Fu Schools, it is our aim to guide every one of our students to their Junior black belt and beyond! After all, a black belt is only a white belt that never gave up!

We teach all our lessons in an upbeat and friendly manner, with a focus on positive reinforcement and encouragement. Our instructors are fully trained and DBS checked, with years of combined experience in teaching children. We also limit the number of children in each class, keeping a small student to instructor ratio to ensure that your child will get the most out of each and every lesson. Our two rules for the kids are: to always try their best, and to always have fun!

Kung Fu Schools is fortunate to be closely associated with the Confucius Institute, a centre for Chinese culture and wellbeing. Our links provide our Juniors with various opportunities to attend or even to appear in various Kung Fu performances and demonstrations, the latest being a Chinese arts and culture show at the Fairfield Halls to celebrate the Chinese New Year of the Dragon.

Would you like your child to:

  • Have more confidence?
  • Concentrate better at school?
  • Be more self-disciplined and responsible at home?
  • Learn how to stand up to bullies?
  • Adopt a more positive attitude?
  • Develop into a well-rounded individual?

If you said “yes” to any of the above, then call us today to see what Kung Fu can do for you and your child! We offer a 30-day, no obligation trial, to see the benefits of martial arts to your child firsthand!

We look forward to seeing you and your child!

Reward and Grading Structure

grading-imageIntegral to our children’s classes are the reward scheme and grading structure. The reward scheme allows us encourage and reward hard work and positive behaviour (both in and outside of the school) on a class by class basis, reinforcing why this behaviour is important in their day to day activities and for their growth as a martial artist.

The grading structure allows for setting of short, mid and long term goals. For both the children and adults, research shows that you are far more likely to stick to your training and get to where you aspire to be with goals in place, so we encourage people through the grading structure. It also allows us to deliver the system in a pragmatic and deliberate manner, making sure that the students are not overloaded, and that they understand each element before moving onto the next.
